How to Get an Instagram Reel Transcript
Get an Instagram Reel transcript from a public video link. Follow the sign-in and ZIP download steps, then check your TXT, SRT and VTT files.

Copy the direct link to a public Instagram Reel, sign in to Video Script Extractor and select Get transcript. When the task is ready, download the spoken words as TXT or timed subtitles as SRT and VTT.
You can submit the video link without downloading the video first. Keep the Reel available so you can check names, numbers and any words that are hard to hear.
Copy the link to a public Reel
On a phone, open the Reel and copy its link from the share menu. On a computer, open the individual video page and copy its address. Check that the copied link opens the intended video.
Use a public video that is still available. Viewing a private post in your own Instagram account does not give the transcription service access to it.
Use a public Reel or single video post
The tool accepts direct links to public Instagram Reels and single video posts. A profile or search page contains several possible videos, so copy the link from the individual post.
Stories and posts without one supported video cannot be submitted through this link form. If a direct link is accepted but the task fails, check whether the video has been removed or its access has changed.
Sign in, paste the link and start
Open the Instagram transcript tool and sign in. Paste the video link, then select Get transcript to submit it. The tool identifies the spoken language automatically.
The task continues in the background. Open Transcripts to follow its status, including if you leave the tool page. Check the existing task before submitting the same link again.
Download your transcript and subtitles
When the task is ready, select Download all formats in Transcripts. Unzip the download to find transcript.txt, transcript.srt and transcript.vtt.
Use TXT to read or edit the words. SRT and VTT add start and end times for each transcript segment. Play a subtitle file with the same video version and check that each line matches the audio.
The format guide lets you inspect TXT, SRT, and VTT output structures to see how each format fits into your editing or repurposing workflow.
Compare TXT, SRT and VTT formats
Find the saved result in Transcripts
Your account’s tasks appear in Transcripts. Search by video title or original link, and filter by status to find a completed result. A ready record lets you download the files again.
The record keeps the original Instagram link. If you also need the video file, use Download video on the ready task. The text and subtitle ZIP contains no MP4.
Check that your first task is complete
A Ready status is your starting point for checking the files. Use this list to confirm you can read the result and find the original video again.
| Check | What you should find |
|---|---|
| Task | One Ready record for the source video in Transcripts. |
| Download | A ZIP containing transcript.txt, transcript.srt and transcript.vtt. |
| Words | Spoken words in TXT. Compare a passage with the video; post captions and on-screen text are separate. |
| Timing | Start and end times in SRT and VTT. Check a cue against the same video version. |
| Source | The original link saved with your notes, so you can verify names and quotes. |
Check the free allowance and paid credits
Accounts without an active membership have two successful free transcriptions every day, for public videos up to three minutes each. Sign in to use this allowance; no card is required. Active members use membership credits.
The daily free allowance renews every day. Failed tasks never consume your successful daily allowance.
Longer videos and tasks beyond the free allowance use one credit per started minute. For a paid task, 38 seconds uses one credit and 2 minutes 1 second uses three. Processing limits still apply.
Credits are reserved during processing and charged after a successful result. A failed task releases them. Downloading files from a ready task again uses no extra processing credits.
